WRLA & MRU

The WRLA has established a new certification program designed specifically for the LBM industry – by the LBM industry. Named the “WRLA Fundamentals of the Lumber and Building Supply Industry Certificate” this program is the first of its kind. The WRLA has been working closely with Mount Royal University’s (MRU) Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension to develop this formal certification program.

This is an online program with enough flexibility to be taken when students can fit the time into their weekly schedules. It is a four-week program consisting of four courses designed to be easily accessible online for new industry hires and to those in career transition.

  • Industry Literacy Skills: The Role of the WRLA in Today's Lumber Building Materials Industry
  • Negotiation Skills

Education Grants

The WRLA Fundamentals of the Lumber and Building Supply Industry Certificate registration fee is $615 (no applicable taxes). Students enrolled in the program are eligible to apply for WRLA Education Grants. Course participants will be eligible to apply for partial or full reimbursement after they have successfully completed the course, making it possible for those who are underemployed or unemployed to take the course. WRLA is developing the application process of these grants and expected launch date is in 2019.

This certifcate program enables the WRLA to support key goals:
• To attract and retain talent to the LBM industry
• To professionalize the industry with a formal certificate program
• Through the WRLA Education Grants, the WRLA will provide funds directly to those within the industry
