Why play in a golf tournament?

Tuesday’s WRLA Terry Yates Memorial Golf Tournament at Quarry Oaks in Steinbach gave many answers to this simple question.

The top reasons for participating, in no special order are: to exercise, to get fresh air, to have camaraderie with associates, to scoop a day away from the office, to fund raise, to improve your golf swing, to share laughs, and to compete in a friendly environment.

There were over 200 golfers who shared these thoughts during an 11:00 a.m. shot-gun tee off Tuesday, August 21. It was sunny and it was hot. The day capped off with a roast beef buffet in the Marquee. President Gary Hamilton, and Board Directors, Sean Phillips, Martha Konantz and Steve Peters presented awards and prizes.

Why play in a golf tournament indeed. If you are not already registered in the upcoming WRLA tournaments September 6 in Calgary and September 12 in Kenosee, SK, do it now. Registration forms available on our website. . Find your reason to play.

Golf Season is Just Getting Started for WRLA

While the calendar may be turning towards the fall months, it’s not time to put the clubs away just yet, especially if you are a WRLA member!

As we saw earlier this week at the Terry Yates Memorial Golf Tournament, there are still plenty of good times on the links to be had. Whether you can drive 150 or 50 yards off the tee, you’re bound to enjoy yourself at one of our upcoming tournaments.

Keep the Conversation Going After the Terry Yates Tournament

Today is a big day for the WRLA, as members gather at Quarry Oaks for the annual Terry Yates Memorial Golf Tournament.

While on the links, there are sure to be a number of conversations going about our industry. After all, if your golf game is poor, you need something else to talk about right?

But what happens once your clubs are back in your bag and the last award has been handed out? Do we simply let these topics die down and cease? Do we wait until we next all gather together for an industry event like Prairie Showcase?

Certainly not! Communication is key to the continued success of our beloved industry, and as such we must nurture its development.

We’d like to now remind you of two ways to do this:

Industry Achievement Award Deadline Fast Approaching!

For the summer vacationers among us, September 7th still seems like it’s lightyears away.

As much as we all wish that was true, that date is approaching at a rate of about 24 hours per day (give or take a few seconds).

Now why is that day so important? It’s the deadline for nominations for the WRLA Industry Achievement Award!

The WRLA wants to recognize the individual who is or has been actively involved in the building supply industry, who has faced challenges and recognized opportunities, and who wishes to share best practices with the association.  This individual has received the respect of fellow members of the association through contributions to the industry, the community, and the WRLA.

We invite you to honour your colleague, your vendor, your competitor or your friend.

Remember – this is the 40th year for the WRLA Industry Achievement Award. This is the time to honour that long-time member who has contributed so much to our industry.

It’s WRLA Golf Season!

Start your (golfcart) engines!

After months of hibernation, the golfer has emerged from its cave. It carefully stalks its white, orbital prey with its array of metallic apparatuses, then without warning drives it into a series of holes, sand dunes and lakes before the lowly creature submits to defeat.

Welcome to the new WRLA website!

After weeks of eager anticipation, we are happy to announce that the new WRLA website is active.

The Western Retail Lumber Association Inc. today is comprised of nearly 1,200 member firms involved in the building supply industry on the prairies. The WRLA represents the interests of members in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories, NW Ontario, Yukon and Nunavut, providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and information in the industry.
